01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled along US-52 in the charming town of Velva, North Dakota, Finish Line Burgers & Brew is a must-visit hamburger restaurant that delivers a truly satisfying culinary experience far beyond what you might expect from a typical bar setting. This cozy spot strikes the perfect balance between a relaxed, inviting atmosphere and an impressive menu that lets you savor burgers and comfort fare made exactly the way you want.

The star of the show here is undoubtedly the burgers, each crafted with care and offering a playground of customization options. Whether you’re craving the bold flavors of the Fastest Cop In The West Burger—a hearty half-pound patty cooked to your liking and nestled on a pretzel bun packed with tasty toppings—or prefer to build your own burger masterpiece, Finish Line shines in catering to individual tastes. Patrons repeatedly praise the freshness and generous portions, often wishing these delightful bites could last forever.

Beyond burgers, the menu delivers a treasure trove of satisfying sides and specialties designed to complement your meal perfectly. Crunchy, golden fries and indulgent chili cheese fries beckon alongside crispy fried pickles, crispy onion rings, and gooey cheese curds. For something a bit different, their smoked gouda and bacon or pepper jack mac & cheese bites add a playful, rich twist to any dining experience. Plus, kid-friendly options like mini corn dogs, chicken bites, and classic mac & cheese make this a great spot for families.

The vibe at Finish Line Burgers & Brew is warm and welcoming—a lively bar atmosphere with high-top tables, dart boards, and claw machines injects fun and social energy without overshadowing the food quality. Service here gets high marks for friendliness and attentiveness, helping to make each visit feel personalized and genuine. Special menu events such as Wood Fire Saturdays or Steak Thursdays add an extra layer of excitement for returning guests.

What truly stands out is the genuine passion Finish Line shows for delivering not only great food but also a memorable experience. The staff’s willingness to accommodate requests—like crafting an off-menu sandwich for a Reuben seeker with thinly sliced rib eye—speaks volumes about their commitment to customer satisfaction.

If you’re passing through Velva or making a day trip, make sure to stop by Finish Line Burgers & Brew. Whether you’re a burger purist or an adventurous eater, you’ll find a delectable meal here that’s hearty, fresh, and downright delicious. It’s a place where every bite reveals the care behind each dish and leaves you eager for the next visit.

Okay, don't write this place off just because it's a bar; that doesn't mean the food will be simple bar food (small portions, quick, fast, easy, ready-made food). The food is fantastic, fairly inexpensive, a delight the moment it touches your tongue, wishing it would never end. They let you customize the food the way you want, adding or removing whatever ingredients. Try the "make your own burger" option; build it with whatever you feel like, and they'll make it. The atmosphere was pleasant and easily enjoyable when we came. It was slightly packed, being a Saturday evening, with everyone talking and enjoying rounds of darts, and a few people hitting the gambling machines they had in the restaurant. If they do get a little packed, it does take a moment for the food, but the atmosphere and the waitresses made the small wait time just fly by and have you enjoy every moment having to wait, and in that wait time, the perfection of the food as it came out just made it even more worth it.

I had the "Fastest cop in the west", 1/2lb. Burger loaded with yummy ingredients on a pretzel bun. This is a place where you can really have the burger your way ! I mentioned to waitress that I was on a quest for the best Rueben sandwich. It wasn't on the menu but she suggested a delicious alternative with thinnly sliced rib eye. I ordered it to go. Thumbs up to the cook !!

Great service and atmosphere. Burger was slightly over done but being able to get venison is a rarity. Definitely would recommend stopping by.

Stellar Service - Wow, these gals were FANTASTIC! Bar setting, has high top tables with beer bucket condiment holders - dart boards & claw games. Better pricing than what we've been seeing lately. I'd go so far as to say incredible pricing on everything except the onion rings. While the rings were good, at $7.99 per side, I'd say they weren't worth it... with the size of the burgers/ sammiches, I'd go so far as to say you probably won't need 'em. They do have a pick 3 for $19 sides/starters menu - most are, of course, fried foods. Rumor has it that the fried pickles are amazing, for what it's worth. The build your own options are greatly varied & kind of overwhelming for our first visit. To avoid the inevitable "burger, bacon, cheese" rut, we chose a couple of their special selections, the unexpected favorite had sausage, bacon, egg & syrup on toast. We would NEVER have selected these options had we chosen on our own. The tap selections were also extensive and only $6 per pint for craft brews. Our total came to $46!

Small place, but amazing food and service. The chicken sandwich was fresh and cooked to perfection. Build your own burgers with plenty of options and lots of sides to choose from. They also have specials on specific nights, wood fire Saturday, steak Thursday, etc. Definitely recommend going out of your way to give it a try.
